Normal opening times
Due to storm damage we are unable to open the Royal Navy Submarine Museum until Wednesday 23 February at 11am. Explosion Museum at Gosport does remain open.
Normal Opening hours are Wednesday – Sunday 10am – 4.30pm
The first pre-booked slot will be 10am and final is 3.30.
Opening hours are extended for the School Holidays. Therefore we will be additionally open Monday’s and Tuesdays (10-4.30) on the following dates:
April 4, 5, 11, 12, 18 and 19.
We will be open 7 days a week from 30 May. Only open 7 days a week in school holidays so for week of 30 May and then back down to 5 days a week, until school summer holidays (opening Mondays and Tuesdays from 25 July. Going to 5 days a week from 5th September 2022 until October half term. It may be easier to message that its 5 days a week (Weds – Sun) all year except school holidays where we are 7 days a week.
Pre-booking is advised but we do accept walk up visitors. Discounts are offered on pre-booked tickets.
Please note that you can book your ticket for 9.30am but the museum will not open until 10am.
Last entry to HMS Alliance is 3.30pm pm, with all Museum galleries closing at 4.30 pm.
Booking your day/time slot is essential.
WATERBUS
Due to the continuation of covid restriction the boat will be operating at a greatly reduced capacity. It will take a maximum of 30 visitors, depending on the size of family/bubble groups.
Get onboard our waterbus service from which makes it easier to travel between the Historic Dockyard site, the Royal Navy Submarine Museum and Explosion Museum.
The Waterbus runs at weekends only during winter opening (November to March inclusive).
The Waterbus is subject to availability and prevailing weather conditions and its availability cannot be guaranteed. The waterbus leaves from the jetty alongside HMS Warrior. Please see the table below for the waterbus departure times.

Please note that the waterbus operates on a first come first serve basis. Booked timeslots do not guarantee of a place on the boat.
Polite notice: The Waterbus does not take any pushchairs/buggies onboard due to the jetty and steps being unsuitable. Buggy parks are available at Boathouse 4, the Warrior jetty and on the pontoon.

Directions
By road: M27 to junction 11. Follow A32 to Gosport and brown tourist signs to Royal Navy Submarine Museum.
By rail: Mainline route London to Portsmouth Harbour. Take the frequent ferry service across to Gosport (3mins). From the Ferry at Gosport, turn left and follow the coastal walk passed the marina and over the bridge. Turn left into the submarine museum to parking.
By water: Get onboard our waterbus service from Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and arrive in style.
Polite notice: The Waterbus is currently not working.
Parking
The Royal Navy Submarine Museum has free parking on-site with easy access to the museum.
Accessibility
Your safety is important to us on site. When exploring the museum, there is wheelchair access to all areas of the museum with lift access to HMS Alliance into the after and end compartment with views through the submarine. Guide dogs, hearing dogs and assistance dogs are welcome in all of our galleries, however they are not allowed on HMS Alliance at busy times due to the confined nature of the submarine.
Hearing loops are installed at main reception, inside the shop, lecture space and cinema. All toilets are at ground floor level. There are three disabled toilets on the site. Wheelchairs are available in the main reception area, please contact a member of staff for use.
