  • The National Museum of the Royal Navy (NMRN) refers to all attractions owned and managed by The National Museum of the Royal Navy located within the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard , Fleet Air Arm Museum, National Museum of the Royal Navy Hartlepool and HMS Caroline.
  • The NMRN headquarters are based at Stoney Lane, HM Naval Base (PP66), Portsmouth, Hampshire, United Kingdom, PO1 3NH, UK
  • The NMRN operates the website https://www.nmrn.org.uk
  • Portsmouth Historic Dockyard is a joint venture between the National Museum of the Royal Navy (registered charity no. 1126283) and the Mary Rose Trust (registered charity no. 1415654).

“NMRN” refers to The National Museum of The Royal Navy.

“Attractions” refers to all attractions owned and managed by The National Museum of the Royal Navy located within the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and on other sites across the nation, but which are included in the sale of the Full Navy Ticket or variable attraction tickets.

“Product” shall mean a product displayed for sale on this website.

“Summer” and “Winter” mean the seasons of operation, the dates of which can be found on the relevant Plan Your Visit page.

We/us” means The National Museum of the Royal Navy.

“Website” refers to the website located at www.nmrn.org.uk or any subsequent URL which may replace it.

“You” means a user of this website.

“PHD” refers to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, which is operated by the National Museum of the Royal Navy operations on behalf of the following:

  4. State the reason for your request – this may include copyright law, , defamation, obscenity etc.

The National Museum of the Royal Navy (NMRN) will undertake the following upon receipt of a withdrawal request:

  1. NMRN will acknowledge receipt of your request within 5 working days by e-mail or letter;
  2. NMRN will temporarily withdraw the respective material subject to further investigation, which will occur within 10 working days of receipt;
  3. NMRN will work with the requester to find a solution to the issue, if one cannot be achieved the material will remain off line permanently.

If the request is unproven, NMRN will re-instate the respective material.

General Ticket Terms 

  • We operate a policy of no refunds, exchanges or extensions for tickets bought on-site, online or via third parties.
  • Tickets are non-transferable and all visitors with named tickets (adult paid tickets) are asked for ID to match the ticket name. If you are unable to provide matching ID, we reserve the right to refuse entry and to confiscate the ticket.
  • To alter or deface a ticket (including lamination or photocopying), to offer a ticket for resale either in person or via a third party, or to improperly use a ticket, will invalidate the ticket and result in confiscation. It may also result in a request for additional payment.
  • By placing an order, you will enter into a purchase contract and you will be charged. Any discounts will not be applied until the order is accepted, but will be detailed in your confirmation email.
  • All general admission tickets are valid for 12 months entry, unless stated otherwise. Please see Donations & Gift Aid in section 6 for more information.
  • We reserve the right to reject a purchase at any time in our sole discretion. However, non-acceptance of an order is most likely to be a result of the product ordered being unavailable from stock, the inability to obtain authorisation of your payment or the identification of an error within the product information, including price or promotion. If there are any problems with your order, we shall contact you.
  • You will be issued with a digital ticket via email, this can be printed or shown on your electronic device and be used for each visit. Matching ID is required for digital as well as physical tickets.
  • All prices are inclusive of VAT at the current rates and are correct at the time of entering information onto the system. We reserve the right to change prices at any time.
  • Adult tickets are valid for individuals aged 16 years old and over.
  • Children’s tickets are valid for individuals aged 3 to 15 years old. Admission for children under 3 years old is free. Under 16’s must be accompanied by an adult.
  • General admission tickets cannot be used for educational visits, which require a separate education specific ticket.
  • We reserve the right to change prices at any time without notice.
  • Lost tickets cannot be replaced under any circumstances.
  • Original tickets only will be accepted, no photocopies, photographs or laminated tickets will be accepted.
  • Tickets for special events are only valid for the day of purchase and do not allow entry on any other date and for any other attraction. You must check the special event terms and conditions upon purchase.
  • All proceeds from ticket and merchandise sales are used to support our charitable purposes, which include promoting and assisting in the display, understanding and enjoyment by the public of our collections as well as Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.
  • Tickets do not include entry to Mini Ports, or other event/exhibition/attractions which may take place in Boathouse 5, 9, or the wider PHD site. Additional charges apply.
  • Some attractions have partial disabled access, please speak to our Customer Engagement Team ahead of your visit if you have any special requirements on enquiries@nmrn.org.uk

Ticket Terms for Tickets Purchased On or Before 6pm 11 November 2025

  • Tickets purchased on or before 11 November 2025 adhere to all General Ticket Terms outlined above in section 3.1.
  • We are unable to convert paper tickets to digital tickets.
  • One Attraction Tickets:
    • One Attraction Tickets are valid for 12 months unlimited access to the same attraction. They are activated on the day of redemption when the ticket is scanned into the attraction, or at point of purchase in our visitor centres.
  • Three Attraction Tickets:
    • A Three Attraction Ticket can be redeemed against three attractions, which do not need to be decided in advance. Once you have scanned into those three attractions, you will have unlimited entry to those attractions for 12 months. You cannot switch to alternative attractions without consent from Portsmouth Historic Dockyard Operations Limited (PHD Ops).
    • The 3 Attraction ticket is valid for 12 months unlimited entry (excluding special event days) from the date of the first scan (if purchased online), or from the date of purchase if brought from our visitor centre, and can only be used for the ticket holders chosen 3 attractions at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and Gosport attractions.
  • Ultimate Explorer Tickets:
    • An Ultimate Explorer Ticket is valid for one-year unlimited entry (excluding special event days) from date of first scan (if purchased online), or from date of purchase if brought from our visitor centre, and can only be used for the attractions at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard and Gosport attractions.
    • A Family Ultimate Explorer 1 ticket can include one adult and up to three children and a Family Ultimate Explorer 2 ticket can include two adults and up to three children. We do not accept any other formula of guests on this ticket.
  • Annual Tickets for NMRN Museums outside of PHD
    • Is valid for one-year unlimited entry (excluding special event days) from date of first scan (if purchased online), or from date of purchase if brought from box office and can only be used at that museum/attraction

Ticket Terms for Tickets Purchased On or After 6.01pm 11th November 2025

  • Tickets purchased on or after 6.01pm on the 11th November 2025 adhere to all General Ticket Terms outlined above in section 3.1.
  • Prices are subject to change.
  • A Portsmouth Historic Dockyard Ticket is validated on your selected visit date and will be active from this date for 12 months entry. If you do not visit on your selected visit date, the ticket will still be validated on this date, and you can visit on another date within the 12-month ticket validation period. Selected visit dates cannot be amended, and tickets are not subject to ticket validity extensions.   
  • Under exceptional circumstances, if you wish to request to amend a selected first visit date, in the first instance please contact our Customer Engagement Team for review. If a date change is offered at the discretion of our team, please note additional charges may apply on top of your admission ticket paid.
  • When purchasing your ticket onsite, you will be asked for an email address so your ticket can be emailed to you to keep for all return visits. A paper ticket will also be issued when purchasing onsite. If booking online, tickets will be sent via email
  • Family 1+3 tickets can be used for 1 adult and up to 3 children. Family 2+3 tickets are valid for 2 adults and up to 3 children.
  • Twilight Tickets are not subject to Gift Aid and are valid at the discretion of the duty manager onsite for one day only from 14:00 onwards until site close.

This is applicable for all sites within Portsmouth Historic Dockyard including the Submarine Museum and Explosion Museum in Gosport. Tickets are valid for those only named on the ticket and cannot be transferred, refunded, upgraded, re-sold, amended or cancelled.

Annual Tickets for NMRN Museums outside of PHD

Is valid for one-year unlimited entry (excluding special event days) from date selected when booking, or from date of purchase if brought from box office and can only be used at that museum/attraction
 

General Promotional, Discounts, and Third Party Ticket Terms

  • Promotional offers and vouchers cannot be combined or used in conjunction with any other offers
  • Any discount that the customer is entitled to has to be claimed at point of purchase, this includes online or in-person.
  • We are unable to retrospectively offer the discount on your transaction.
  • Vouchers cannot be redeemed online or over the phone.
  • Tickets purchased via a third party and promotions tickets, cannot be exchanged, are non-transferable and can only be redeemed by the named ticket winner/holder
  • Promotional offers or vouchers that have been lost or stolen, cannot be replaced under any circumstances.
  • Promotional offers and vouchers cannot be used against special event tickets or Loyalty Club tickets.
  • All vouchers/tickets must be redeemed before the expiry date shown.
  • Promotional offers and vouchers cannot be sold or re-sold.

Newsletter Offer

  • For purchases on or before 6pm 11 November 2025, we offer a 10% discount on Ultimate Explorer Tickets after signing up to the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard e-newsletter.
  • For purchases on or after 6.01pm 11 November 2025, we offer a 10% discount on Portsmouth Historic Dockyard Tickets after signing up to the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard e-newsletter.
  • After submission via our website, you will receive an email with a unique discount code that can be used online only.
  • We are unable to retrospectively offer a discount via the newsletter offer if full price tickets are purchased in the first instance.
  • Tickets purchased via the 10% discount newsletter offer are not an annual recurring payment and are a one-time payment via credit/debit card.
  • The newsletter offer is available online only.
     

  • We operate a policy of no refunds, exchanges, or extensions for tickets bought at admissions or online.
  • Ticket orders purchased both online and in person cannot be amended, modified, rescheduled or cancelled.
  • Gift Aided tickets are subject to Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) regulations and are therefore not eligible for a refund.

  • Additional Gift Aid revenue from the government is split between the charitable trusts that operate Portsmouth Historic Dockyard site (National Museum of the Royal Navy and The Mary Rose Trust), and Portsmouth Historic Quarter. This revenue crucially helps to preserve and conserve the site for future generations.   
  • As registered charities, Gift Aid allows us to reclaim 25p tax for every £1 spent, and for customers to receive 12-month entry with their general admission ticket.
  • Please notify the charity via enquiries@nmrn.org.uk if you:
    • Want to cancel this declaration
    • Change your name or home address
    • No longer pay sufficient tax on your income and/or capital gain (not required for one-off declarations)
  • If you pay income Tax at the higher or additional rate and want to receive the additional tax relief due to you, you must include all your Gift Aid donations on your self-assessment tax return or ask HM Revenue and Customs to adjust your tax code.
  • Gift Aid is reclaimed by the charity from HMRC from the tax you pay for the current tax year. Your address is needed to identify you as a current UK taxpayer. In order to Gift Aid your donation you must purchase one of the Gift Aid ticket options.  
  • Gift Aided tickets are subject to Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) regulations and are therefore not eligible for a refund.
     

  • Portsmouth Historic Dockyard operates within an active naval base, and the security of our visitors and staff is of the utmost importance.
  • We operate a 100% bag search policy on arrival. If you are unable to adhere to this policy, we reserve the right to refuse entry.
  • This list of restricted items is provided by the Royal Navy and the MOD Police. Please note, these items are prohibited and cannot be brought onsite:
    • Bicycles (without a base pass)
    • E-scooters and push scooters (mobility scooters are exempt and permitted on site)
    • Drones (without a valid MOD permit)
    • Animals (except service dogs, guide dogs and assistance animals)
    • Darts
    • Explosives or ammunition
    • Fireworks
    • Knives
    • Blades
    • Other weapons considered dangerous (including pepper or noxious sprays)
    • Firearms
    • Smoke canisters
    • Illegal substances
    • Signs or items with inappropriate text or branding
    • Unauthorized fliers
    • Spray paint
    • Suitcases or luggage
    • Illegal charity collection utensils or any article that may be used as a weapon and/or compromise public safety or which may pose a hazard or nuisance to any other person, or any article to be used for a commercial or a charitable purpose
    • Clothing with offensive signage, slogans, or logos
    • Gang patches
    • Any clothing or item worn deliberately to obscure the face for what might be considered illicit purposes (e.g. bandanas, masks etc.), but with the exception of cultural observance such as a Niqab or Burkha.
    • Laser pointers (except when being used for educational purposes)
    • Tripods are not allowed on site but we do allow for large lenses as long as the photos are not being used for commercial purposes.
    • No professional photography/videography equipment is permitted onsite without prior arrangement with our media team. Please email filming@nmrn.org.uk for further details.
  • When visiting from our Gosport attractions, the Submarine Museum and Explosion Museum, the 100% bag search policy is in place for those wishing to board the waterbus into Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. We have the right to refuse entry to the waterbus service if bag search is refused.
  • Some attractions have partial disabled access, please speak to our Customer Engagement Team ahead of your visit if you have any special requirements on enquiries@nmrn.org.uk.
  • Management reserves the right to refuse entry, if for any reason they deem there is a risk to the site, the attractions and the public or staff on site. Abusive behaviour will not be tolerated.
  • Pets are not allowed on site. Assistance animals are allowed entry to support visitors onsite. If you have further enquiries, please contact  enquiries@nmrn.org.uk.

 

  • All attractions and entertainments are subject to availability. Please ensure you have checked the relevant Plan Your Visit page before your visit to confirm attraction availability and are aware of any closures.
  • We reserve the right to change opening times, prices, validity of ticket duration and availability of all attractions/musuems without notice.
  • Please see individual attraction opening times for related information about accessibility and the attractions differing opening and closing times.
  • The Portsmouth Historic Dockyard site is open 10:00 – 17.30 during Summer months and 10:00 – 17:00 during Winter months, 7 days a week excluding certain dates and as per restrictions below. Opening times for individual attractions may vary. Off-site attraction opening times differ. Please see the relevant Plan Your Visit page for full details.
  • Last entry to the Portsmouth site is one hour before closing time. Please note, each attraction will have its own last entry time and this can vary for each attraction. Please see the relevant Plan Your Visit page for full details.
  • The Submarine Museum and Explosion Museum located in Gosport is open from 10:00 – 16:30 Wednesday – Sunday year-round. On or around Hampshire school holidays and half terms, the sites are open 7 days a week. Please see the relevant Plan Your Visit page for full details.
  • The waterbus operates between 10:00 – 16:15 daily during Hampshire school Summer holidays, unless weather or other operational restrictions apply. During Winter, the waterbus operates under a restricted service, weekends only, and is subject to weather or other operational restriction. We recommend viewing out waterbus page on our website when planning your journey.
     

The below document outlines our complaints process which is intended to ensure that all complaints regardless of how received (i.e. verbally or digital etc.) are handled fairly, consistently and where possible resolved to the complainant’s satisfaction. PHD is subject to the 1998 Data Protection Act. NMRN is the data controller, and will hold any personal data on behalf of PHD.  NMRN and will not pass on personal data to any third parties. Your contact details may be held on a database and mailing list. 

You may be contacted with information we feel may be appropriate and relevant to you from time to time. If you do not wish to receive mailings from us please notify enquiries@nmrn.org.uk giving your full name and address (as per your booking) and you will be removed from the mailing list. All rights under the 1998 Data Protection Act (UK) and any subsequent revisions will apply. Please refer to our privacy policy  Privacy Policy - Portsmouth Historic Dockyard for more information relating to online data and personal information. 

Prices are subject to change without notice and inclusive of value added tax (VAT) at the current rates. Products are subject to availability. As there is a delay between the time when the order is placed and the time when the order is accepted, the stock position relating to particular items may change. If an item you have ordered becomes out of stock before we accept your order, we shall notify you as soon as possible. 

When you place an order on our website we will email an acknowledgement of the intended order. At the time of purchase of the order the purchase contract will be made and the purchaser of the ticket. 

Any discounts triggered by the entry of a promotional code will not be applied until the order is accepted but will be detailed on the invoice. 

We reserve the right to reject any offer of purchase at any time. However, non-acceptance of an order is most likely to result from one of the following: the product ordered being unavailable from stock; our inability to obtain authorisation of payment; the identification of an error within the product information including price or promotion. If there are any problems with your order we shall contact you. 

Any discount has to be applied at time of purchase we will not be able to refund or retrospectively apply the discount. 

All prices are inclusive of VAT at the current rates and are correct at the time of entering information onto the system. All cardholders may be subject to validation checks and authorisation by the card issuer. If the issuer of your payment card refuses to or does not, for any reason, authorise payment to us, we will not be liable for any delay or non-delivery. We do not accept payment by cheque or postal orders. Processing is reserved against your card at the time the order is placed, but will not be charged until the order is dispatched. If for some reason a purchase fails, due to problems with payment details, we will attempt to contact you by phone or email within one working day. Once your order has been dispatched we will send you an email to confirm that your order is on its way. 

We are committed to the security of users’ personal information and we have procedures in place to protect the loss, misuse or alteration of information under our control. Our security and privacy policies are periodically reviewed and enhanced as necessary. We have measures in operation to safeguard our user database and access to this database is restricted internally. When you shop on our site, we collect certain personal information from you (for example your name, email address and billing address). All such information is held on secure servers and NMRN fully complies with all applicable Data Protection and consumer legislation and will treat all your personal information as fully confidential. Certain links on this site may lead to websites that are not under our control. When you activate any of these you will leave our website and we shall not be liable to you in any way whatsoever in respect of the privacy practices, for the content of such site or otherwise. 

You agree that all copyrights, trademarks and all other intellectual property rights in the material and content of this website shall remain vested in us or our licensees. You acknowledge and confirm that the material and content contained within the website is made available for your personal non-commercial use only and that you may (if necessary to make a purchase) download such material and content onto only one computer hard drive for such purpose. Any other use of the material and content of this website is strictly prohibited. 

Notwithstanding our reasonable endeavours to verify the accuracy of the information appearing on this website, we make no express or implied warranties in relation to its accuracy. Our liability to you in the event of our breach of any of these terms and conditions shall be limited to refunding any money you may have already paid for product that you have not received or that you have returned within the agreed time scales and in the required condition. So far as the law allows, we shall not be liable to you for any other loss or damage whatsoever. Your statutory rights as a consumer and your cancellation rights are not affected by these terms and conditions. Nothing in these terms and conditions shall exclude or limit our liability for death or personal injury resulting from our negligence or that of our employees or agents. 

Any delay or failure on our part to exercise our rights under these terms and conditions shall not be construed as a waiver of any prior or subsequent breach by you of any provision. 

The laws of England shall govern the contract between us and any dispute between us will be resolved exclusively in the courts of England.

1.    The promoter is: The National Museum of the Royal Navy (the “Promoter”).

2.    Entry requirements/methods, closing dates, and prize information can be found on the competition page. 

3.    All competition entries must be received by the Promoter via the entry method specified on the competition page by no later than 10am on the Closing Date. All competition entries received after this time are automatically disqualified.

4.    Competitions are free to enter and no purchase is necessary.

5.    The Promoter will not accept:
(a)    responsibility for competition entries that are lost, mislaid, damaged or delayed in transit, regardless of cause, including, for example, as a result of any postal failure, equipment failure, technical malfunction, systems, satellite, network, server, computer hardware or software failure of any kind; or
(b)    proof of posting or transmission as proof of receipt of entry to the competition.

6.    By submitting a competition entry, you are agreeing to be bound by these terms and conditions.

7.    Winners will be selected at random from all qualifying entries within five days of the Closing Date.

8.     The competition is open to enter for all residents in the UK aged 18 years or over, except:

(a)    employees of the Promoter or its holding or subsidiary companies;
(b)    employees of agents or suppliers of the Promoter or its holding or subsidiary companies, who are professionally connected with the competition or its administration; or
(c)    members of the immediate families or households of (a) and (b) above.

9.    In entering the competition, you confirm that you are eligible to do so and eligible to claim any prize you may win. The Promoter may require you to provide proof that you are eligible to enter the competition.

(a)    In instances where the prize is for a child/children (aged between 4 to 17 years) a parent may enter on their behalf. 

10.    The Promoter will not accept competition entries that are:

(a)    automatically generated by computer;
(b)    completed by third parties or in bulk;
(c)    illegible, have been altered, reconstructed, forged or tampered with;
(d)    photocopies and not originals; or
(e)    incomplete.

11.    There is a limit of one entry per person. Entries on behalf of another person will not be accepted and joint submissions are not allowed.

12.    The Promoter reserves all rights to disqualify you if your conduct is contrary to the spirit or intention of the prize competition.

13.    Prizes are subject to availability. There is no cash alternative for the prizes.

14.    The prizes are supplied by The National Musuem of the Royal Navy (the “Suppliers”).

15.    Prizes are not negotiable or transferable

16.    The decision of the Promoter is final and no correspondence or discussion will be entered into.

17.    The Promoter will contact the winners personally as soon as practicable after the Closing Date, using the telephone number, email address or social media handle provided with the competition entry. The Promoter will not amend any contact information once the competition entry form has been submitted.

18.    Once the winners have been chosen, this will be announced and pinned to a post on the National Museum of the Royal Navy official Facebook and Instagram accounts. We will never ask you to click links outside of the official competition post.

19.    The winners of the prize will have 30 days from the Closing Date to claim the prize by responding to the private message on the relevant social media platform. If you do not claim the prize by this date, your claim will become invalid.

20.    The prize may not be claimed by a third party on your behalf.

21.    The Promoter will make all reasonable efforts to contact the winners. If a winner cannot be contacted or is not available or has not claimed their prize within 30 days of the Closing Date, the Promoter reserves the right to offer the prize to the next eligible entrant selected from the correct entries that were received before the Closing Date.

22.    The Promoter does not accept any responsibility if you are not able to take up the prize.

23.    Insofar as is permitted by law, the Promoter, its agents or distributors will not in any circumstances be responsible or liable to compensate the winner or accept any liability for any loss, damage, personal injury or death occurring as a result of taking up the prize except where it is caused by the negligence of the Promoter, its agents or distributors or that of their employees. Your statutory rights are not affected.

24.    The Promoter will only process your personal information as set out in the National Museum of the Royal Navy privacy-notice.

25.    If there is any reason to believe that there has been a breach of these terms and conditions, the Promoter may, at its sole discretion, reserve the right to exclude you from participating in the competition.

26.    The Promoter reserves the right to hold void, suspend, cancel, or amend the prize competition where it becomes necessary to do so.

27.    These terms and conditions shall be governed by English law, and the parties submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
