The National Museum of the Royal Navy Hartlepool welcomed over 40,000 visitors during this year's Tall Ships Race (6th-9th July) - kicking off a fantastic start to the summer season!

Visitors to this incredible weekend, the biggest free event in the UK, were able to see international Tall Ships, small ships and yachts from Den Helder in the Netherlands sailing into Hartlepool in North East England, before travelling back across the sea to Norwegian Fredrikstad.

The National Museum of the Royal Navy is a proud sponsor of the event, which drew over a million visitors to Hartlepool in 2010. Entrance to the National Museum of the Royal Navy Hartlepool was free over the weekend, so visitors could enjoy seeing our very own 'Tall Ship', HMS Trincomalee.

As part of our commitment to supporting the return of this fantastic celebration of sailing prowess as it returns to the maritime heart of the North East we welcomed the opportunity to bring visitors into our museum and what we have to offer over what was a bumper weekend of events throughout Hartlepool.

From family favourite activities like our Horrible Histories: Pirates! Exhibition to the brand new Diving Deep: HMS Invincible Exhibition our brilliant team of staff and volunteers loved seeing so many people experience NMRN Hartlepool, be it for the first time or the thirtieth time (and judging from the pictures you shared to our Facebook page you all had a brilliant time - be sure to check there for the winners of our photo competition!)

We loved welcoming people from all over the country who may never have had the chance to visit us before and we hope that you'll visit us again soon. There's still so much to see, with daily cannon firings and weapons demonstrations and the full glory of our recreated 18th century seaport, which is why all our tickets are annual.

So you can visit us again and again all year, giving incredible value for a day out that has something for the whole family. What's more if you book online you save 20% on tickets!

If you visited us over the weekend be sure to follow our Facebook page and sign up to our mailing list to keep up to date on all the activities taking place at the National Museum of the Royal Navy Hartlepool and we can't wait to see you soon.
