HRH The Princess Royal, Patron of The National Museum of the Royal Navy, officially opened the Museum’s new Babcock Galleries, home to the newly opened ‘HMS Hear My Story’ and ‘Racing to War: The Royal Navy and 1914’ exhibitions on Thursday 26th June.
Her Royal Highness then unveiled a bust of Rear Admiral Sir Donald Gosling KCVO Vice Admiral of the United Kingdom. The bust is centre stage in the renamed Sir Donald Gosling Victory Gallery and is in recognition of his very generous gift of £25 million towards the conservation of HMS Victory and his continued support of the Royal Navy – past and present.
Located within Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, home of the Royal Navy, The National Museum of the Royal Navy launched two new major exhibitions on 3 April 2014, within its new £4.5million Babcock Galleries. Housed within the country’s most significant naval storehouse from the Georgian period, both ‘HMS Hear My Story’ and ‘Racing to War: The Royal Navy and 1914’ are state-of-the-art interactive displays and exhibitions which – for the first time in British History – showcase 100 years of naval life, covering a thousand stories from the men and women who served at sea over the last century.
