Planning a visit to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard over the festive period? Please be aware of the planned work taking place at Junction 10 of the M27.
From 8pm 24 December 2025 to 4am 4 January 2026 the M27 will be closed in both directions between Junction 9 (Whiteley) and Junction 11 (Fareham East) with a signed diversion route in place via A27.
Key messages: for road users
- Plan your visit and allow extra time for your journey
- Travel earlier or later in the day
- The busiest hours are expected to be between 10am – 4pm
- Think about alternatives to avoid severe delays including other routes or public transport options such as train, bus, or ferry.

- Westbound exit remains open at Junction 11 (Fareham/Gosport)
- Eastbound exit remains open at Junction 9 (Whiteley/Park Gate)
- No westbound entry at Junction 11 (towards Southampton/A32)
- No eastbound entry at Junction 9 (towards Portsmouth)
What is happening?
Improvements are being made to the M27 Junction 10 to support the development of Welborne Garden Village, a new community of up to 6,000 homes just outside Fareham in Hampshire, and to provide easier, safer access to the M27.
By Rail
Did you know Portsmouth Harbour station is just a 2 minute walk from the entrance to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.
There are regular trains running from London Waterloo and to and from Southampton Central with links to the South West and the West country. Find out more at South Western Railway
By Ferry
Avoid the roads and travel by ferry. Regular journeys run daily from Gosport to Portsmouth and back.

By Bus / Coach
Many local and regional bus services stop at the Hard Interchange (adjacent to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard entrance). Please visit First Bus, Stagecoach or Bluestar Bus services or your coach service provider for the most up to date routes and timetables.
