Travel back in time to Regency England and celebrate the 250th anniversary of beloved novelist Jane Austen. Explore Austen's naval connections through themed hands-on activities, displays, and talks. Discover the importance and of storytelling in order to record women's voices, and learn all about Eliza Bunt, a women who lived on board HMS Trincomalee with her family through the diary she kept whilst at sea.

To celebrate the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen we have plenty of hands on activies the whole family can enjoy such as:

  1. Dance workshops where you can learn regency dance steps fit for a ball.
  2. Hear the fascinating story of Eliza Bunt, HMS Trincomalee's very own female author.
  3. Learn about Jane Austen's unique link to the Royal Navy and the life of her brothers in our themed tours and object sessions.
  4. Head to the Tailor's Shop and be transformed into a regency lady or gentleman in our fun dress up station.
  5. Take on a challenge with our Eliza Bunt trail as you solve questions and find clues around the site.   

This event is free with a valid museum ticket.
