This May half term, step aboard HMS Trincomalee and be a conservator for the day as you learn about the pests living aboard HMS Trincomalee – a 200-year-old war ship.
Meet HMS Trincomalee’s Conservator, Emma, and discover a variety of minibeasts that can be found aboard the ship. Use a microscope to view these creatures up close, from carpet beetles to clothes moths, learn how to identify them and what these pesky pests can do to the ship.
Then, grab your magnifying glass and be part of the pest patrol as you scour the ship looking for these little intruders.
After looking for all the creatures, join the team as they show you how scientific advancements help conserve the ship.
Learn about the world of 3D scanning and how we use it to help conserve the ship. You can also have a go at scanning some replica objects that belong on board. Will your 3D object resemble the real thing or will you sink under pressure?
