HMS Caroline says thank you to National Lottery players

In conjunction with the Heritage Lottery Fund, HMS Caroline is pleased to welcome National Lottery players to Belfast’s newest award-winning attraction, HMS Caroline for free from 11 – 17 December 2017.

A new month-long celebration by the National Lottery sees Heritage Lottery Funded projects take part in a co-ordinated week of free activities, giving National Lottery players access to some of the UK’s finest historical attractions.

National Lottery players have contributed £7.7 billion of funding to over 42,000 heritage projects across the UK since 1994, and HMS Caroline is proud to be part of their success story. The Heritage Lottery Fund has supported The National Museum of the Royal Navy, in particular, HMS Caroline, through grants totalling £15 million since 2014.

HMS Caroline is the last survivor of the Battle of Jutland and of the First World War British Grand Fleet. The ship has been redeveloped to increase the accessibility of areas across the ship including the Captain’s quarters and engine room.

The quayside development continues with a new visitor centre, set to launch in April 2018 in the original 120-year-old Pump House. This unique building will provide space for special exhibitions, and links the heritage of HMS Caroline with the surrounding maritime environment – in particular Alexandra Dock.

HMS Caroline would like to say a massive thank you for the continued support offered by the Heritage Lottery Fund alongside our other partners, through their expertise and financial contribution.

Lottery Players can watch the drama unfold in the Battle of Jutland experience, following the stories of crewman who fought in one of history’s most devastating battles.

450 different objects are on show which helps tell the story of the people of Northern Ireland during the First and Second World War supported by a fully immersive audio tour. Visitors with a National Lottery scratch card or ticket can access HMS Caroline for free from 11 – 17 December.
