Tom Wright CBE

Trustee of the NMRN Board and member of the Digital Committee.

Tom Wright is a marketer by professional background developing well-known brands such as Center Parcs and Saga. He has been a CEO for the last 20 years of leading not for profit organisations including VisitBritain, Age UK, and Guide Dogs. He has extensive experience as a Non-Executive Director particularly in the heritage and museum sector having served several terms as a Trustee of the Imperial War Museum, Royal Green Jackets Museum, and currently as a Trustee of Leeds Castle and Chair of the Imperial War Museum Development Trust.

More broadly, Tom has worked in the health sector most recently as the Senior Independent Director of NICE. His enthusiasm and passion for naval history dates to a childhood love of the books from CS Forester, Alexander Kent/Douglas Reeman and Patrick O’Brian, and a love of Cornwall with its maritime history. He was delighted to be involved in Trafalgar 200 promoting Britain’s maritime attractions as Chief Executive of VisitBritain and to be on the organising committee for Waterloo 200. Tom was awarded a CBE for services to Tourism.

The 68 pounder carronades on HMS Victory are a spectacular spot to view the history of the Royal Navy from the Mary Rose to the Queen Elizabeth-class aircraft carriers when in dock. The loading and handling of a 1.77 tonne gun on an open deck under enemy gunfire is an extraordinary testament to the bravery of the sailors at the time.
