Pussers Rum

Pusser's "Gunpowder Proof" is a traditional Royal Navy style rum produced at Admiralty strength and in accordance with the Admiralty's blending recipe last used when the Royal Navy discontinued its daily ration on 31st July 1970.

Prior to the invention of the hydrometer, the ship's purser shut down claims of watering down sailors' daily tot by mixing a few grains of gunpowder with the rum to see if it would burn .If the mixture ignited, the rum was "at proof". If it didn't, the purser might find himself tossed to sea.

Boulton Medal

The perfect gift for a naval heritage fan, these medals are limited edition with only a small amount made in a one off run.

Each one comes with a numbered certificate of provenance.

The medal has been hand cast using melted down metal taken from HMS Victory during restoration work.

This is a replica of the original boulton medal was given out to the survivors of The Battle of Trafalgar in 1805.

Ernie the Knitted Sailor

Inspired by an exhibit in our HMS Gallery in Portsmouth, this lovely award-winning knitted sailor is the perfect memento of your time in our Museum's.

The original was made by a Submariner, Ernest 'Gus' Britton representing himself as a Signalman. Gus's father served on HMS Caroline in the Battle of Jutland and Gus followed in his father's footsteps by joining the Navy at an early age.

In 1947 Gus served on HMS Alliance and later became a stalwart supporter of the Royal Navy Submarines Museum where today you can stand in the submarine that he served on.
