Celebrate International Women’s Day with an inspiring session celebrating Women in Shipbuilding, past and present.
This drop-in family experience invites visitors of all ages to meet the women whose expertise, creativity and problem-solving skills are essential to conserving HMS Victory for future generations.
On Victory Live: Big Repair, expert shipwrights and riggers will demonstrate traditional and modern techniques used in maritime conservation. Get hands-on with caulking and discover how this vital craft seals wooden seams, protecting ships at sea. Meet the rigging team to explore rope techniques and see how mechanical pulley systems make it possible to lift and move enormous structures safely and efficiently.
Then in Victory Gallery, families can take part in additional creative activities inspired by the same skills. Design your own ship, experimenting with shape, structure and purpose, and try your hand at rope making to understand how strength, twist and tension are key to life at sea.
