If you have a question about the history of the Royal Navy or want to research more about the National Museum of the Royal Navy’s collections,  please look through our free resources on the ‘online resources’ page or on the ‘information bank’. Some of our photographic collections are also available to order from the Print on Demand catalogue.

Interested in researching your naval ancestry, then please see our Service Records Guide Sheet. Unfortunately, the museum only holds a select number of personnel records which are outlined in the guide. Otherwise, the guide will let you know where you can locate other records. Please note that the museum is not able to complete research on the behalf of enquirers.

If you still have questions feel free to attend one of our drop-in events ‘Ask the Archives’ see events pages for more detail. Please note if you are looking to make a research appointment or to speak to a Curator this must be confirmed in advance, the museum is not able to accept enquiries in person or over the telephone. For research appointment, the museum requires a minimum of two weeks' notice in advance of an intended visit, and preferred appointment times cannot be guaranteed.

If you are looking to make a donation of material to the collection please see the ‘offers of materials to collections’ page.
Please allow at least one month for a response to your enquiry. Enquiries are dealt with free of charge but donations to supporting our work is appreciated. OR
