Collections Assistant. Fleet Air Arm Museum, Yeovilton

Salary: £19,000

37.5 hours per week – temporary (fixed term – 6 months]

The National Museum of the Royal Navy (NMRN) is recruiting a fixed term Collections Assistant to join the Exhibitions and Collections team, within the Heritage Directorate.

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual to gain additional experience and knowledge through working with an internationally significant and diverse collection. The project intends to reorganize and compress stored collections in our stores in Cobham Hall, then to facilitate the ingress of collections from the Royal Marines Museum uniting collections from across the National Museum of the Royal Navy.

We are looking for a dynamic, adaptable and motivated team member to help facilitate the ambitions of this project, while caring for our diverse collection to a high standard.

Key Opportunities

• Chance to work as part of a close-knit curatorial team of staff and volunteers working directly on the NMRN’s biggest collection movement and storage project.

• Opportunity to help prepare and carry out collections movement tasks on the Fleet Air Arm Museum and Royal Marine Museum collection.

• Chance to gain experience within a collections management environment, carrying out collections movement, documentation and care to high standards and best practice.

Knowledge/Experience

This is an exciting opportunity for emerging heritage professionals with an enthusiasm for working with museum collections, this role and involvement in the project will provide experience and knowledge to help develop their future career progression.

Applicants must have experience of working with collections in the heritage sector and be able to demonstrate a good understanding of professional Museum standards. Applicants should be good communicators, with an interest in working in collection projects and understanding of working with volunteers.
