Access Advisor-Portsmouth

Salary: £26,000

30 hours per week, permanent

The National Museum of the Royal Navy (NMRN) is recruiting an Access Advisor to join the LEAP (Learning, Engagement, Access and Participation) team at the National Museum of the Royal Navy, Portsmouth.

This is an exciting opportunity to lead on best practice in access in museums. The role will include liaising with colleagues and external consultants including designers and architects to ensure that accessibility is at the heart of our work. You will co-ordinate a group of access champions to ensure that we not only meet the legal requirements associated with access, but that we exceed these wherever possible.

You will have an excellent working knowledge of the issues and opportunities associated with access in museums and be conversant with the relevant networks and stakeholder groups. 

Reporting to the Head of Access and Participation this role will help us in achieving the NMRN’s vision to become the world’s most inspiring Naval Museum.

  • Applicants must have a sound understanding of access within a heritage environment and a track record of work effectively with a range of different audiences to meet access needs. The ability to effectively influence and create change is essential.
  • Experience of embedding best practice around access within capital projects is desirable.
