Dazzle- Eastney Sealife Art Project, 2012

Dazzle art work

Once again we joined forces with artist Debbie Dodsworth to help local children get inspired by their local heritage and the museum's collections. We worked with children from Meon Junior School, Milton Park Primary School and Wimborne Infants School created their own Dazzle art based on the paint designs used to confuse the enemy during World War One.

Their fantastic work was exhibited at the Roadshow at Eastney Community Centre and then at the National Museum of the Royal Navy!

We recently held the special gala premiere of our latest film project-which saw 20 year 5 pupils from Stamshaw Junior School becoming documentary filmmakers. They worked with Harvest Films to interview 8 veterans about their experiences of conflict. The project is a core part of HMS: Hear My Story the museums new Heritage Lottery funded gallery development all about the Navy in the 20th and 21st centuries.

Commotion in the Ocean - Buckland Sealife Art Project, 2012

Last spring we worked with 90 pupils from Manor Infant and Newbridge Junior Schools. Funded by the Heritage Lottery as part of the Storehouse 10: New Galleries project ‘Commotion in the Ocean’ was inspired by the sights and sounds of the Dockyard.

Working with local artist Debbie Dodsworth the pupils created automated masterpieces and a sound installation based on the work of Wassily Kandinsky. Their work was unveiled at the Sealife Roadshow in Buckland Community Centre and later displayed in the Museum’s Victory Gallery.
