Facilities Manager

Facilities Manager (Belfast), based at HMS Caroline with very occasional travel to other NMRN locations.

Salary:  £24,000 per annum

37.5 hours per week, permanent.

The National Museum of the Royal Navy (NMRN) is recruiting for a full-time Facilities Manager for HMS Caroline - working as part of the Historic Ships Team within the Heritage Directorate and closely supporting the Visitor Experience team onsite and the local site management team.

This is an exciting role reporting to the Conservation and Maintenance Manager (based in Portsmouth) and will play a key role in supporting the NMRN’s vision to become the world’s most inspiring Naval Museum.  HMS Caroline is one of Belfast’s newest tourist attractions, and part of the National Historic Fleet’s core collection.

This role will be focused on ensuring the ship and shoreside facilities are well maintained, ensuring a safe, fun and effective environment for our visitors, staff and volunteers.  The work will be varied, including the development and implementation of schedules of maintenance and conservation, managing contractors, working with specialist colleagues in the wider Historic Ships Team and attending to building and facilities breakdowns and carrying out minor repairs and maintenance duties.

Key Opportunities

• Develop and implement a program of planned maintenance to ensure the ship and shoreside facilities are protected and the site remains safe, inspiring and enjoyable for our visitor’s staff and volunteers.

• Manage relationships and service agreements with Contractors.

• To use ‘hands on’ skills to maintain the ship, buildings and systems.

Knowledge/Experience

The ideal candidate will be equally comfortable managing maintenance programmes, contractors and service agreement relationships, but also competent delivering ‘hands on’ minor repairs and maintenance.

Applicants should have recent experience in the building/general maintenance or ship construction/maintenance/repair sectors.

The candidate must  be capable to act as the site Building Recovery Manager and take appropriate responsibility in the event of an Emergency or Incident.

A flexible approach to work is needed as occasional to out of hours work/call outs will occur.
