Casual Night Quartermaster - HMS Warrior

Salary:  £9.00 +13.5% holiday pay per hour (£10.22 per hour)

Hours: 6.00pm – 7.00 am (13-hour shift) on a casual basis, as and when required

Location: HMS Warrior, Portsmouth Historic Dockyard

The National Museum of the Royal Navy (NMRN) is recruiting for Casual Night Quartermasters on board HMS Warrior 1860.  HMS Warrior was the pride of Queen Victoria’s navy. The world’s first iron-hulled, armoured ship, and the largest warship in the world when built. She is an extraordinary survivor, now moored at the entrance to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, the first and largest museum object seen by visitors to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.

We are looking for individuals who enjoy their own company and are happy to work alone for long periods, are trustworthy, reliable and can work under their own initiative. This is an important role looking after HMS Warrior and taking the security and safety of the ship seriously. You will also liaise with our Shipkeepers in the morning.  For most of the shift you will be working alone, there are lone working procedures in place as your safety is important to us.

Key Opportunities

• Looking after the security and safety of HMS Warrior 1860, its contents and jetty area during business closed hours including safety patrols.

• Assist with the set up and clean down of events onboard, as and when required.

• Work in a unique historical environment and be based onboard HMS Warrior with opportunities to be part of the wider team who help to conserve HMS Warrior.


• You will have moderate knowledge of Health and Safety and Security requirements and a willingness to learn more.

• You will have experience of working with a degree of autonomy.

• Experience of communicating and engaging with a wide and varied audience.
