Salary: £26,000 - £31,000 per annum (dependent upon experience)

37.5 hours per week – permanent

The National Museum of the Royal Navy (NMRN) is recruiting for a permanent Registrar to join the Exhibitions and Collections team. This is an exciting opportunity to shape and develop the collections management practices and procedures across NMRN.

At present, this important administrative work is spread across the team.  The Registrar will become the first point of contact for all loans, donations and disposals, take responsibility for creating from scratch a single, centralised Registry, and coordinate collections management procedures right across the organisation, allowing the team to provide an improved, more consistent service to internal and external clients, and manage time more efficiently.

The Exhibitions and Collections Team is a dynamic team who care for the collections of the NMRN held in galleries and stores across seven sites.  We also support other teams and external groups through object loans, providing historic information about items in the collections and leading on elements of larger projects that directly affect collections.

Key Opportunities

• Chance to create, implement and manage a new centralised Registry for a National Museum.
• Opportunity to lead and co-ordinate collections management procedures across a complex multi-branch organisation.
• Experience working with an exceptionally wide variety of collections from buttons and badges to Naval guns and vehicles.
• Be part of a close-knit team working to maximise access to the newest National collection.

• Significant experience of working within the Heritage sector and able to demonstrate a good understanding of professional museum standards.  Preferably with experience of registration, collections management or collections information.

• Ability to work confidently under own initiative on a range of tasks simultaneously with a degree of autonomy, within a busy working environment.
