Explosion Museum of Naval Firepower

**Explosion Musuem of Naval Fire and the Portsmouth Historic Dockyard will be temporarily closed from 19 December until the New Year due to government guidelines**

Following the recent update from the UK government in response to COVID-19 and the move of Portsmouth and Gosport into Tier 3, we can confirm that we will be temporarily closing the National Museum of the Royal Navy and Portsmouth Historic Dockyard until the New Year.

Be intrigued by unique collections

Explosion Museum of Naval Firepower is an award-winning museum of naval warfare set in the 18th century buildings at the Royal Navy's former armaments depot of Priddy's Hard, in Gosport, Hampshire.

Step back in time and wander through the original buildings used to store armaments and weaponry for over 200 years. Immerse yourself in historic displays that tell the story of those who worked at Priddy’s Hard and the weapons they created.

See small arms, cannons and guns as well as the ammunition that was used inside them. Marvel at missiles, torpedoes and mines galore and understand the moral and human stories behind them all.

The human story behind munition making

Alongside developments in munition technology, Explosion Museum tells a human story of the designers, makers, and seamen who worked on armaments over the centuries.

Listen to first-hand accounts of munition workers who dealt with dangerous materials and the dramatic retelling of warfare in the field.

Sit back and relax at the Camber Lights Café

Enjoy a homemade slice of cake and barista-made coffee as you take in the views of Priddy's Hard – perfect for a sunny afternoon.

Opening times

Open every Saturday and Sunday from 10.00am - 4.30pm.

Last entry is at 3.30pm.
