The Harrier was the world’s first operational Vertical Take Off and Landing attack aeroplane. The RAF operated the first-generation Harrier in RAF Germany from 1970 to 1992, both from fixed bases and from field sites. The Harrier Force was an iconic part of the Cold War, but its operations were unique and required complex support. SoFFAAM’s Tim Brandt was an engineering officer on the Harrier Force in the mid-1980s and gives an overview of the Harrier’s role in RAFG, its capabilities, and its support. The lecture will be illustrated by many of his personal photographs taken at the time.
