Shipwrights on the Scaffold

Meet some of shipwrights who combine traditional and modern tools with teamwork and skill during the vital conservation work on board HMS Victory.

This is a free event taking place on Monday 11th and Tuesday 12th September. Sessions will be taking place on both days at 10:30am to 11:15am, 12:30pm to 1:15pm, and 2pm to 2:45pm.

Space is limited at 20 attendees per session so pre-booking is essential. Please assemble at Victory Live: The Big Repair (attached to HMS Victory) prior to your session time.

The National Museum of the Royal Navy, alongside Portsmouth Historic Dockyard generally, is proud to be taking part in Heritage Open Days this year. With a theme of ‘Creativity Unwrapped’ we’ve got events sure to get you thinking about British naval history in a whole new way.

Get inspired by crafty submariners, the unusual and thought-provoking items in our collection, and the work of the shipwrights combining traditional and modern techniques to work on the flagship of Horatio Nelson.
