Salary:  £24,000 to £25,000 per annum (dependent upon experience)
37.5 hours per week.

The National Museum of the Royal Navy is the UK’s newest national Museum. We are recruiting for an experienced Electrician within the expanding Historic Ships Conservation team based in Portsmouth. The successful candidate will be part of a friendly, multidisciplinary team of museum professionals, conservators and maritime industry specialists committed to high quality professional work maintaining and conserving historic ships.

Key Opportunities.

The majority of your time will be based in the Portsmouth and Gosport area including ships and Buildings which include – HMS Victory, HMS Warrior and HMS M.33 and Museums. With travel to other ships posted at the Museum’s other locations in the UK, including Hartlepool and Belfast.

Overseen by the Foreman Electrician, your work will ensure that the NMRN’s Historic Ships are able to operate effectively and safely. With these ships as public attractions, you will also engage with visitors about the important conservation work being undertaken. This role provides an excellent opportunity to those involved in interesting and challenging heritage work within historic ships.


Fully qualified and time served Electrician with Deeds of Apprenticeship.

You will be required to have previous proven experience in electrical maintenance, alarm systems, fire detection, emergency lighting, audio systems, Risk Assessments and Health & Safety.

A Marine Electrical background is preferable but other Electrical backgrounds will be considered for the right candidate. 

The role does require the applicant to be qualified to City & Guilds level 3 Certificate in Electronic/Electrical Engineering (2322). Equivalent Qualification’s or Experience will be considered.

Qualified to Inspection and testing certificate (2394/2395) is desirable but equivalent qualification will be considered

The applicant will possess working knowledge of IEE regulations and BS7671.
